4. Time for a Joke (page 50)
Say and ask:
Read the joke.
Make sure that the kids understand the joke.
Some jokes are funny, others surprise you. When we say "hardest" we mean
difficult. Here it is the sidewalk.
Extra Activity:
Simpler: Have a student try to tell this joke as a stand-up comedian in front of the class.
More challenging: Have a student who knows another joke in English come to the front and share it
with the class.
5. Language Focus: Imperatives (page 51)
Curriculum:
AL: Students will compare different
language elements of English, such
as tense and gender, to their mother
tongue.
Explain the use of imperatives.
Go over the explanation in the book. Emphasize that the
examples are taken from the listening text they just
heard.
Say:
We use the imperative when we want to make a request or give an order, an
instruction or a warning.
We form the imperative by starting with the verb without the word “to”. For
example: Bring me the book.
There is no subject in the sentence because when you give a command or
make a request, you are always talking to a specific person, to ‘you’.
If we want to tell someone what not to do, we use the helping verb ‘don’t’
before the verb. For example: Don’t break the glass.
6. Let’s Match! (page 51)
a. Have the students match the sentences to the pictures.
