II. Who are The Detectives?
Tom and Kate are siblings who love adventure. Their everyday world is about to change as they meet
new people, uncover secrets, and solve mysteries!
III. The Characters
The book features five recurring characters:
Tom – a boy
Kate – Tom’s older sister
Professor Sparky – an inventor
Jack and Kate – two detectives
Colourful new characters are introduced at the start of every unit.
IV. The Storyline
In UNITS ONE and TWO, Tom and Kate try to find out who is stealing bikes in Lakeview. Their new
friends, Jack and Amy, the detectives, and Robert, a reporter, join forces to solve the case.
UNIT 3 finds Tom and Kate trying to discover who stole two valuable paintings from the Lakeview
Museum.
UNIT 4 takes the kids on a quest to save endangered animals. With the help of four new friends,
Tom and Kate learn more about the environment and what all of us can do to protect it.
In UNIT 5, Tom and Kate confront the problem of bullying. With help from Jack, Amy and Miss
Santos (their math teacher), they help the kids at Lakeview School understand the real meaning of
friendship.
In UNIT 6, Tom and Kate’s summer vacation plans change when they receive a mysterious invitation
and two plane tickets to London. Who sent them and why? We’ll give you one clue: two of the kids’
friends have a very big secret!
