UNIT 1 and UNIT 2 : The Bicycle Thief (level 1)
1. Characters: Tom and Kate (brother and sister, students in school), Robert (reporter), Amy
(detective), Jack (detective), Professor Sparky (inventor).
2. The students should relate to the fact that Tom and Kate are just kids but that they like to help
solve mysteries, which is different.
3. Accept all logical answers.
4. Real character – Lance Armstrong, biker.
UNIT 3: Mystery at the Museum (level 3)
1. They learned about Picasso, Marc Chagall and Andy Warhol.
2. Their advertisement must be created in a way that is convincing.
It must include the name of the book, who it’s aimed at, a picture, an explanation and where to buy
it.
UNIT 4: The Eco-Detectives (level 2)
1. This summary includes finding out about an animal in danger and making a poster about that
animal.
2. The poster must include why the animal is in danger, information about the animal, its habitat
and how we can help save it.
UNIT 5: Problems at School (level 4)
1. In this assignment, the students are going to make a Bully Box and try to help stop bullying in
their school. This should be given only to those students who want to get involved and try to make
a difference. Make sure they consult with the school counselor and the principal before they
actually attempt this assignment, as it would need approval.
2. The students doing this would need to meet with their teacher or the school counselor to talk
about the problems they read about and how to solve them.
