The word ’royal ’(write it on the board) means that he is a king, a prince, or any other
member of the royal family.
So Tom and Kate are invited to what? (an official party that has to do with the royal family)

OK now we know what the invitation says, Let’s read the text.
Why is Tom having a hard time reading the invitation? (the handwriting)
Tom doesn’t understand what it says, Do you? (See if anyone can guess.)
Let’s see if Kate understands.
Find her explanation in the text. (Kate says, “you and I are invited…”)
Is Kate right? Does she understand the invitation? (yes)
How does Kate explain who ‘His Royal Highness’ is? (She says it’s someone from a royal
family, like a prince, or a king, and NOT a name.)
What is the big question Kate and Mr. Miller have? (How does a king know them?/ How do
they know a king?)
Why do you think Tom says “Did you look at these plane tickets?” What’s on the tickets? (He
is excited that they are going to London on a royal flight.)

Ask:
Do you think Tom and Kate will go to this official reception? (Accept all logical guesses.)
How do you think the king or prince knows them? (Accept all logical explanations.)
