logical guesses. Try to lead them into guessing that something is going to happen and that
she knows about it.)
Why does Mrs. Miller say, “Right on time”? (Accept all logical answers, but refer to the
doorbell ringing, and that maybe Mrs. Miller was expecting this visit.)
Do you think Mrs. Miller was expecting Miss Lee? (Yes)
How do you know Mrs. Miller was expecting Miss Lee? (last line in Paragraph 2, Mrs. Miller
says; “right on time”)

Have the students read the paragraph.
Ask:
Who’s at the door? (Miss Lee)
What is she wearing? (a blue suit)
What does Miss Miller notice on Miss Lee’s suit? (The blue suit has a big gold symbol on it.)
Who is Miss Lee asking to see? (Tom and Kate)
What does Miss Lee have for Tom and Kate? (a special delivery)
What does she have in her hand? (an envelope and a clipboard)
What color is the envelope? (purple)
What do you think is in the envelope? (Remind the students that at the end of the previous
text Miss Lee took invitations on her way out to catch a flight, and she had a flight plan, too.)
Why do you think Miss Lee can’t tell Tom and Kate who sent the envelope? (Accept all
logical answers.)
What is on Miss Lee's suit? (the gold symbol)
Does Miss Lee join the Miller family for breakfast? (no)
Paragraph 4
Read Paragraph 4.
Is Miss Lee going to see the kids again? Find the line in the text that tells you. “I’ll see you
at….er…goodbye!”)
Does Miss Lee tell the kids where she is going to see them? (no)
When she’s at the door, she says ‘See you at…’, does she say where? (no)
Why do you think she doesn’t say where? (she’s not supposed to give away the secret)
