3. Let’s Sing! (track 55) (page 200)
Read the song with the students.
Make sure all the vocabulary and ideas are clear.
Ask:
What does it mean ‘friends to the end’? (they will be friends forever)
What does the song say is cool? (to be different)
How are they different? (stand out in crowd; explain the expression)
What is the chorus? (we’re the real cool kids, no bullies allowed)
What does that mean? (we are the ones who are cool, the nice ones, the smart ones, not
the bullies)
What do they suggest doing? (write notes to friends)
Why should we write notes? (it makes people feel good)
What does ‘stand up and join us’ mean? (that we want all the kids to join us, to belong to
the group)
After they understand the message, play the song.
Encourage the students to sing along.
If you’ve got students who would like to, have pairs or threes perform the song in front of the class.
If they want to change the tune and make it a rap, that’s a wonderful idea.
4. Let’s play (page 201)
Tell students to open their game board at the back of the book, take out their cards and play the
game. Help Tom and Kate's friends to get to the school picnic in Lakeview Park.
