4. Time for a Joke
Have the students read the joke.
Ask:
Why is the joke funny?

NOTE: Understanding a joke in a second language is always more difficult as many times they
are a play on words. In this case the joke is based on the sentence ‘elephants can’t read’. It’s a
play with words and requires an understanding of the context of putting an ad in the paper.
5. Word Detective! (page 195)
Curriculum:
Explain the activity to the students.
AI: students will use simple information

Each little table has a missing word.
