Let’s remember
Ask:
What did Kate find on the internet? (websites
about bullying)
Why was Ann in the computer room? (she was
looking at her Facepage)
What do we think is going to happen at 3
o’clock? (see if the students recall what they
predicted)
What’s new between Kate and Ann? (they are
now friends)
Curriculum:

events in the text and use this
knowledge as needed.

types and use this knowledge as needed

Discuss the title of the section. HOTS
Ask:
What do you think this title means? (accept logical predictions)
What might be a problem that everyone shares? (bullying – if they don’t come to this, lead
them towards it by hinting at things that they’ve been reading in the unit)
1. Let’s Read! (track 53) (page 186)
Before Reading
Ask and say:
Who remembers what happens at 3 o’clock? (see if anyone remembers the meeting with
Jack and Amy mentioned in the listening text Part 2 Activity 1 where the principle
announced: Finally, today at 3 o’clock our friends Jack and Amy will be back with a special
after-school meeting in room 101. All students are welcome to join.)
Read the first line of the text.
Do you remember now what’s going on at 3 o’clock?
HOTS Why are Jack and Amy mentioned here? (encourage them to guess and try to
remember)
Before we begin let’s look at a few words.
NEW WORDS:
VOCABULARY
confused
follow
suddenly
Present the new words on the board. Discuss each word, giving a synonym or
a definition via a sentence that explains the meaning of the word.
Vocabulary reinforcement
Have the students go over the text and find the words they just learned. Ask them to read the
sentences where they found the words. If there are still unclear words, explain them.
Have the students copy the words into their notebooks and write their definitions.
For weaker students: have them copy the sentence with the new word into their notebooks, next to
the definition they wrote. This will help them remember the context as well.
For more ideas go to Introduction in the Yellow Pages section.
