6. Let’s Write! (page 173)
Curriculum:
P: Students will produce a short
piece of coherent writing.
Say:
Let’s read the cool note that a classmate
wrote to Alma.
Read the note and then say:
A new student has just joined your class.
You want to be their friend.
You want to write him a note telling him that.
What will you write?
Look at the example in the book to help you.
Have the students work quietly at their desks.
When they have finished, ask a few students to share what they’ve written.

Ask:

Why do you think it helps to be friendly? (Accept all logical answers.)
