THE DETECTIVES - TEACHER’S GUIDE - Unit 5
You can start like the sentence in your book, “A cool kid is nice to people. He or She never…”
(Do one example on the board to show them the structure. A cool kid is someone who
doesn’t say bad things about people.)
When they have finished, go over a few of their sentences with the class.
Appreciation of language and culture
NOTE: the word COOL is American slang that has been adopted by many cultures. The colloquial
meaning of the word is used to depict something hip, attractive, modern, better than others,
and the students here are taught to use it in that form. It’s been adopted by Israeli teens and is
used occasionally with the same intention in mind as the colloquial version the American slang.
You may want to use this rubric to assess the students' work.
