What did the boy from Seaside School meant when he said: “We have to change our worldbefore it changes us”? (Accept all logical answers.)
Discuss the title of the section. (HOTS- Prediction)
Ask:
Whose dad do you think they turn to? (Tom and Kate’s dad)
Why do you think they turn to someone’s dad for help?
What kind of help do you think Dad offers?
When you have a problem, do you turn to your parents for help?

Now, present the new words on the board.
Explain the difference between an apartment, a house and a home. The explanation could be: an
apartment is a home within a building with many apartments, a house is a private home, a home is
where the family or people live, and it could be anywhere – a house, a tent, a caravan, an
apartment, etc.
Vocabulary reinforcement
Have the students go over the text and find the words they just learned. Ask them to read the
sentences where they found the words. If there are still unclear words, explain them.
Have the students copy the words into their notebooks and write their definitions.
