THE DETECTIVES - TEACHER’S GUIDE - Unit 3
7. Let’s Play! (page 115)
WORD BINGO
Have the students go page 229 in their Workbook.
Curriculum:
AI: Students will use simple
information tools such as a glossary,
a simplified learner’s dictionary, and
a table of contents.
Say:
We are going to play Bingo.
I’m giving you a Bingo Board.
Choose 25 words from the word lists in the unit and copy them in your notebook.
Write the words on the Bingo Board in any order you choose, one word in each square.
I will not be calling out the words but giving you clues and you have to guess what word I am
referring to.
o The clue could be to fill in the BLANK, like this:
" The students were very BLANK when they found out that the teachers'
strike was over!" (Write the word ANGRY on the board.)
o Or the clue could be in pantomime, like this: (Make your ANGRIEST face!)
o Or the clue could be a definition, like this: "very annoyed, mad"
Once you know the word, say it out loud.
If you have the word, on your Board, mark an X on it.
The first one to cover five squares in a row wins.
You can continue playing until more students cover five squares, or move on to a second round and
have the students cover the entire card.
If you like, you can give out a small prize to the winner of each round.
This is a sample bingo card with 25 spaces
8. Let’s Write (page 116)
Have the students open their Detective's Notebook and write the answers to the questions to form
a case summary of the unit.
They can work in pairs to do this activity.
Say:
You have a series of questions in your books.
You have the answers to these questions in your Detective's Notebook.
Answer the questions using the clues you have and the information from the stories.
