For weaker students: Have them copy the sentence with the new word into their notebooks, next
to the definition they wrote. This will help them remember the context as well.

Have the students read the first two paragraphs.
Ask:
What was the name of the painting? ("Green Coca-Cola Bottles".)
When was it painted? (1962)
How much is it worth? (millions of dollars)
What kind of artist was Andy Warhol? (pop artist)
Where was Andy Warhol from? (America)
How did he start his career? (Drawing pictures for advertisements.)
What was his first drawing? (ladies' shoes)
Who bought that drawing? (an art gallery owner)
What did Warhol become famous for? (large posters of food, cola bottles, comic book heroes
and money)
Who are some of the famous people he drew? (Queen Elizabeth and Michael Jackson)
Have the students read the last two paragraphs.
Ask:
What do pop artists think about everyday products? (everyday products are art)
What idea did Warhol love? (that popular products are the same for everyone)
What does "popular products are the same for everyone" mean? (even the president drinks
the same. Coca-Cola as a poor man, so popular products are not for special people only, but
for everyone.)
Where is the "Green Coca-Cola Bottles" painting now? (stolen)
After Reading
Ask:
What do you think of the art Andy Warhol made? (Accept all logical answers.)
Would you like to see some of his work?
Do you think Andy Warhol is right when he says ‘everyone can enjoy pop art’? (accept
logical explanations.)
