Why? (The thief may come back to take other things)

Ask:
What’s Kate’s big suggestion? (Maybe the collection in that room belonged to Mr. Bates.)
What does Amy remember? (that Bettina had these paintings in her gallery before Bates
had them)
How could that be? (Maybe Bettina, who owned a gallery, sold Mr. Bates the paintings)
After Reading HOTS
Discuss the findings with the whole class. Write the clues students mention on the board.
After each clue is presented, make sure the students know where it was found by referring to the
text.
Make sure all the clues have been mentioned.
The clues are:
The crime was at 11:30
The thief cut a hole in the museum window.
The thief stole two paintings.
The thief stole the paintings without the frames.
The thief put a message on the table.
The message said the thief wants to ‘take back’ things.
The things are things in the Bates Collection.
Bettina the gallery owner owned the paintings before the museum.
Bettina is a suspect!!
