Past Simple Irregular Verbs
Write on the board: Irregular verbs
Say:
We learned that to form the Past Simple of regular verbs, we add 'ed ' to the base form. For
example play becomes played, walk becomes walked etc.
Today we are going to look at some of the irregular verbs.
They are irregular because in the past tense we don't add 'ed' but we have a different word.
Some examples: (Write on the board.)
o eat – ate
o go – went
o sit – sat
Negative sentences and questions are formed in the same way as with regular verbs:
o We use ’did ’ and ’didn’t ’.
o For example:
I didn’t eat a sandwich for lunch yesterday.
Did he sit on that chair an hour ago?
