a. Have students copy the table in exercise 8 into their notebooks.
Do the first three sentences with the class.
Write:
1. I dreamed a funny dream.
Ask:
What’s the verb? (dreamed)
Now, form a question (Did you dream a funny dream?)
If I want to say no, what will I say? (I didn’t dream a funny dream.)
Now you try number 2 in your notebooks.
Copy the sentence:
2. You didn't invent a great machine.
Circle the verb. (invent)
Write a positive sentence and a question. (You invented a great machine…/ Did you
invent…? )
Now let’s do the next one.
3. What’s the sentence in the book? (Did she remember my name?)
What’s the verb? (remember)
What would be the regular sentence here? (She remembered my name.)
What would be the negative? (she didn’t remember my name)
OK now try it on your own and we’ll check.
Have the students do the last five sentences in their notebooks.
When they have finished, go over the answers with them.
