Before listening
Have the students look at the pictures on page 79.
Say:
You are going to listen to a conversation.
First look at the drawings that Mike drew.
Then match the descriptions that you hear to the drawings.
Play the track and have students do exercise 2.

Before the second listening
Have the students read the questions in exercise 3," Let’s Answer" on page 79. Go over any
questions that aren’t clear.
Say:
Now you are going to listen to the conversation again.
Write the answers to the questions in your notebooks.

Play the track again and have students do exercise 3.
When they have finished, go over the answers with them.

Amy:
Hello, I’m Amy. Are you Kate’s friend Mike?
Mike:
Yes, that’s me. I am an artist. I come here every day!
Maybe I can try to help you solve the mystery of the stolen paintings!
Amy:
Great! What information can you give me?
Mike:
I don’t know exactly who the thief is, but there are three people that I see here all
the time. Maybe you can talk to them and find out if they know anything important!
Amy:
OK, tell me about these people. Or better still can you draw them for me?
Mike:
Sure! (draws) Let’s start with number 1. She is a lady who comes here on Mondays,
Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She has red hair and a round face…. She wears a
different hat every day. Oh, and she always wears a letter B on her jacket.
Amy:
Wow, you are really good! I recognize her – that’s Bettina the gallery owner! She
owns an art gallery in the Lakeview Shopping Mall. What about the other people?
Mike:
OK, Number 2. This lady is Miss Bates. She comes here every day. She is an older
lady, with black hair and glasses. Sometimes she brings her poodle, Fifi.
Amy:
Hmm, Bates. Is that William Bates's wife?
Mike:
No. She’s his daughter.
Amy:
OK. Try to remember. Is there anyone else?
