THE DETECTIVES - TEACHER’S GUIDE - Unit 2
6. Let ’s Practice! (page 65)
Have the students write eight sentences in their
notebooks using the words in the chart.
Walk around to see what they are writing and that this is
clear to them.
When they are done, check a few of their answers on
the board.
Explain anything that comes up and isn’t clear.
When you have checked a number of their sentences
and are they confident they understand, say:
Now we will conduct a survey.
Curriculum:
P: Students use given criteria, such as
a checklist, to prepare and improve
presentation.
P: Design a means for collecting
information such as a questionnaire
and a list of results.
7. Let’s Do It! (page 65)
Have the students get into groups of four. They have to copy the chart from their
books. At the top, they should write the names of the people in their group.
Say:
Ask each other the questions.
Under the correct name, write the answer that your friend gives, either ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
When you are finished, make sure you have completed all the points on the checklist.
Then, report your group’s results.
After all the groups are done, draw the following chart on the board.
Write down the numbers from each group and tally how many students said ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to
each question. Then determine which question has the highest positive response.
Names of Students:
YES
Total
NO
Do you listen to
music?
Do you play football?
Do you like to draw?
Do you speak English?
Simpler version: Have the students only ask two of the questions here.
More challenging: Have the students add another question on their own and
present it in their chart.
You may use this rubric to assess the group’s work. It’s on a ten point scale.
