THE DETECTIVES - TEACHER’S GUIDE - Unit 2
2. Let’s Read! (Track 22) (page 62-63)
Before Reading
New Words
amazing
excellent
lying
Present the new words on the board. Discuss each word, giving a synonym or a definition via a
sentence that explains the meaning of the word.
Vocabulary Reinforcement
Have the students go over the text and find the words they just learned. Ask them to read the
sentences where they found the words. If there are still unclear words, explain them.
Have the students copy the words into their notebooks and write their definitions.
For weaker students: Have them copy the sentence with the new word into their notebooks, next
to the definition they wrote. This will help them remember the context as well.
For more ideas, go to pages vi and vii in the Yellow Pages section.
Reading
Have the students read a few frames at a time and ask questions about them.
Frames 1-2:
What’s in the photo? (the bus stop)
Frames 3-6:
Who is in the photo? (Bill)
Does Bill help Tom and Kate? (no)
Frames 7-8:
What does Bill say about the game? (H e says that It was a really great game.)
Why did Bill miss the half-time show? (He said he ate a sandwich at Carly’s
Café.)
Frames 9-10:
