Draw a big ‘R’ on the Letter House poster.
Ask where big ‘R’ lives. (on the top floor and in the middle.of the house)
Have students write rows of ‘Rr’s. As students write each letter they can say the
sound /r/.
Activity 3
• Have students color all the circles: ‘Rr’ = red, ‘Hh’ = blue, ‘Nn’ = green, ‘Mm’ =
yellow.
• Call out the name of a letter or a sound of a letter. Students must put a finger on
the letter called out.
• They keep their finger on the spot while you call out another letter.
• They must then put another finger on that letter.
• The game continues until they can put no more fingers down on the page.
• They may use fingers on both hands. (Yes, they will get their fingers twisted up.
That is the idea of the game!)
Activity 4
• Look at the pictures.
• Ask what each picture shows.
• Say the word written below each picture: rainbow, red, run, radio.
• Have students repeat the words after you: rainbow, red, run, radio:
• Have students trace the ‘r’s.
• Now ask them, what other letters they know in these words.
• Have students trace the letters.
• Students can now read the words ‘rainbow’, ‘red’ and ‘radio’.
