Prepare a hardboiled egg.
Lesson Procedure
Letter 'e', Action and Chant
• Bring your shoulder to your nose, and wave your arm like the trunk of an elephant.

Ask students to guess what animal you are. (an elephant)
Ask them what sound they hear at the beginning of the word elephant. (/ĕ/)
Say: /ĕ/ /ĕ/ elephant, /ĕ/ /ĕ/ elephant
Have students imitate the action while saying: /ĕ/ /ĕ/ elephant
Draw an ‘e’ on the board. Chant (track 26): The letter is ‘E’. The sound is /ĕ/. The word
is ‘elephant’. The word is ‘egg’.
Have students repeat after you.
Ask students what shapes make an ‘e’. (a line and a part-circle)
