Magic Letters
• Give plasticine to each student.
• Instruct students to roll the plasticine into thin ropes to make ‘lines’ for the letters.
• Say: Make the letter ‘O’ with the plasticine. (Check to see that everyone does it
correctly.)
• Ask students if they can ‘magically’ make the ‘O’ into a big ‘Q’. (add a small line)
• Say: Make the letter ‘c’.
• Ask if they can ‘magically’ make the ‘c’ into an ‘a’.
• Then ask if they can turn the ‘a’ into a ‘d’.
• Finally ask if they can turn the ‘d’ into a ‘q’.
Name Cards Activity
There are very few English names that begin with the letter ‘Q’. If there are any students
in the class whose names begin with ‘Q’, follow the instructions for the Name Cards
Activity in Lesson 8, on page 21.
Letter Cards
• Open the Workbook to pages 41 and 45.
• Have students carefully remove the ‘Q’ and ‘q’ Letter Cards.
• Now, Have students trace the letters with their fingers.
• Tell them to take out the Letter Cards for ‘Oo’ and ‘Dd’.
• Tell students to hold up the Letter Cards as you call out the names of the letters, e.g.
big ‘O’, small ‘q’, big ‘D’, small ‘d’, small ‘o’, and big ‘Q’.
• Hold up the Letter Cards and ask what the letters are.
• Say: The letter is ___. The sound is /_/. The word is_______.
ABC Poster, Mural and Song
• Have a student point out the letters ‘Qq’ on the poster.
• Say: Quiet. Quiet. The letter is ‘Q’. Quiet, quiet. The sound is /kw/. Do the ‘quiet’ action.
• Hold up the mural piece for ‘Qq’.
• Ask students where they think the ‘Qq’ goes. (after the letters ‘Pp’)
• Put up the mural piece.
• Sing the ABC Song (track 7). Do the actions for the letters they have learned.

Open the Workbook to page 25.
Activity 1
• Have students take out their plasticine. Have them roll small logs to cover the Q's at
the top of the page.
• Have students color the letters at the top of the page, following the direction of the
arrows.
