Activity 2
• Draw a small ‘k’ on the Letter House poster. Ask students where small ‘k’ lives? (on the
top floor and goes down to the middle of the house)
• Draw a big ‘K’ on the Letter House poster. Ask where big ‘K’ lives? (on the top floor and
goes down to the middle of the house)
• Draw students’ attention to where the ‘V’ is placed in the middle if the ‘K’.
• Have students write rows of ‘K’s. As they write each letter students can say /k/.
Activity 3
• Look at the pictures and ask students what each picture shows.
• Say the word written next to each picture: Max, king, kangaroo, kids, wings, kick, taxi.
• Have students repeat the words after you: wings, yo-yo, kids, taxi, kangaroo, Max,
kick.
• Now tell them to listen to the sound at the beginning of each word.
• Ask: Does the word __________ begin with ‘k’? If so, connect the lines between the
‘k’ in the center to the words that begin with ‘k’.
• Now ask: What letter did you get?
• Have students find the word ‘kick’.
• Ask them what letters they know in the word ‘kick’. (‘k’ and ‘i’) Students can read this
word now.
• Have students trace the ‘k’s and the letter ‘i’ in ‘kick’.
• Tell students to find the picture and the word ‘kids’. Ask students what letters they
know in the word ‘kids’. (‘k’ and ‘i’) Have students trace over them.
• Have students trace over the ‘k’in ‘kangaroo’.
