Prepare Name Cards for students whose names begin with ‘Z’.
Lesson Procedure
ABC Song (track 7)
• Play the song and sing along with the whole class.
Action and Letter ‘Z’
• Pretend to zip up a jacket.
• Chant: The letter is ‘Z’. The sound is /z/. The word is ‘zipper’.
• Have students repeat after you.
• Teach students the English word ‘zipper’. Say: When you zip a zipper, it goes ‘zip’.
• Draw a ‘Z’ on the board. Ask what shapes make a ‘Z’? (three lines
‘Z’Chant (track 15)
• Play track 15 and chant with the class: The letter is ‘Z’. The sound is /z/. The
word is ‘zipper’.
Name Cards Activity
If there are any students in the class whose names begin with the letter ‘Z’ follow the
instructions for the Name Cards Activity in Lesson 8, on page 21.
ABC Poster, Mural and Song
• Have students point to the letters ‘Zz’ on the ABC poster.
• Chant the ‘Z’ Chant and do the appropriate action.
• Hold up the mural piece for ‘Z’.
• Ask students where they think the ‘Zz’ goes. (after the letter ‘Y’, or at the end of the
alphabet)
