Letter Cards - ‘Ll’, ‘Ii’, ‘Vv’
Before the Lesson
Prepare Name Cards for students whose names begin with ‘V’.
Lesson Procedure
Body Shapes and Action
• Pretend to play a violin. As you do so, say: /v/ /v/ /v/ /v/.
• Ask: What am I doing? (playing a violin)
• Tell students to listen to the sound you say as you play: /v/ /v/ /v/ and have students
do the same.
• Draw a ‘V’ on the board. Chant: The letter is ‘V’. The sound is /v/. The word is ‘violin’.
Have the class repeat after you.
• Ask students what shapes make a ‘V’ (2 lines)
• Give students a few minutes to make the letter ‘V’ with their bodies. They may use
fingers, legs, arms, etc.
• Invite several students to come up to the front to show the class how they did it.
‘V’ Chant (track 10)
• Play track 10 and chant with the class: The letter is ‘V’. The sound is /v/. The word is
‘violin’.
Name Cards Activity
• Hold up the cards with students' names that begin with the letter ‘V’. Ask what sound
we hear at the beginning of the name? (/v/)
• Give the Name Cards to students to attach to their desks.
