Have students repeat. Put the ‘Italy’ card on the board.
Team Two is called India. Say: /i/, /i/, India.
Have students repeat. Put the ‘India’ card on the board.
Students will take turns tossing the ball into the box.
When a student gets the ball into the box, his team says the word ‘in’ and earns a point
for the team.
Write the points on the board under the name of the correct team. The team with the
most points wins the game.
Letter Cards
• Open the Workbook to pages 41 and 43.
• Have students carefully remove the ‘I’ and ‘i’ Letter Cards.
• Say: Hold up the card with the big ‘I’. Check to see that all are correct.
• Say: Hold up the card with the small ‘i’. Check to see that all are correct.
• Chant: The letter is ‘I’. The sound is /i/. The word is 'Italy', the word is 'in'.
• Now have students take out their ‘L’ and ‘l’ Letter Cards.
• Hold up the ‘L’ card. Chant: The letter is ‘L’. The sound is /l/. The word is ‘look’. The
word is ‘listen’. Students repeat.
• Now, tell them to raise the Letter Cards that you call out: big ‘L’, small ‘l’, big ‘I’, small ‘i’.
• Mix the order in which you call out the names of the letters, e.g. big ‘L’, small ‘l’, small
‘i’, etc.
• Call out slowly and then quickly. Have students say what sound the letter says.
ABC Poster and Song
• Have a student point to the letters ‘Ii’ on the poster and say: The letter is ‘I’. The sound
is /i/.
• Have students do the appropriate actions and chant the ‘I’ Chant.
• Have another student point to the letters ‘Ll’. Have everyone chant together: The
letter is ‘L’. The sound is /l/. The word is ‘look’. The word is ‘listen’. Do the appropriate
actions and chant the ‘L’ chant.
• Sing the ABC Song (track 7). When you reach the letters ‘I’ and ‘L’, have students do
the actions that go with the letters learned.
• Hold up the mural piece for the letters ‘Ii’. Look at the ABC Poster. Ask: Where do the
letters ‘Ii’ go? Is it before or after the letters ‘Ll’? (before)
• Put the letters ‘Ii’ in their position on the mural, leaving space for the letters ‘Jj’ and
‘Kk’.

Activity 1
• Ask: What letters are at the top of the page? (small ‘i’ and big ‘I’)
• Have students take out their plasticine. Have them roll a small log to cover the small
‘i’ and roll a small ball for the dot.
• Draw a large ‘I’ on the board as it is shown at the top of page 13.
