Game: The Memory Game
The Letter Cards that your students have been using in Reading Readiness (capital and
lower case) have picture cards to match! You will find these picture cards on pages 47 51 of the student's Workbook. The word and picture cards can be used to play a memory
game at three different levels. Memory games are fun to play in class and an excellent
enrichment activity for students to try at home with parents or friends.
Level 1 – Introductory
Use capital and lower-case Letter Cards.
(For an easier game you can focus on fewer letters, e.g. A – J)
Mix the cards and turn each over so that it is face down on a table or desk. Students take
turns trying to match pairs (i.e. ‘B’ and ‘b’). Each turn a student chooses two cards. If the
cards match, then he or she removes the pair and takes an another turn. If the two cards
do not match, the student puts the cards back in their place, and the next student takes a
turn. The player with the most matched pairs wins the game.
