• Introducing “ee”
- Explain that when ee appears in a word, it makes the long /E/ sound as in these
words: cheese, feel, three, sheep, knee, coffee, green, queen, week, sleep,
tree, feet, teeth, see, wheels
- Add ‘ee’ to the picture dictionary.
• Tell pupils: Open the Practice Pages to page 203-204.
- Complete the exercises according to instructions.
• Introducing “ea”
- Explain that although the ea combination usually makes the long /E/ sound,
there are exceptions where the combination makes a short /e/ sound, as in
head, and bread.
- Long /E/ sound: ear, leaf, leaves, season, jeans, wheat, read, tea, teacher,
dear, beach, Ice-cream
- Short /e/ sound: bear, wear, pear, head, sweater, weather, bread
- Add ‘ea’ to the picture dictionary.
• Tell pupils: Open the Practice Pages to page 205.
- Ex. 66 - Pupils should be able to read this text on their own.
- Ask pupils to read the text out loud.
- Ask questions such as:
1. Where are the pupils going?
2. What are the pupils wearing?
