• Introducing the sound /sh/
- Explain that in English, 2 letters sometimes make one sound. Remind pupils
of ch.
- Practice the /sh/ sound orally with words pupils already know.
- Add ‘sh’ to the picture dictionary.
- Note: At times, throughout this unit of study, pupils will be required to read
whole words that contain some letter sounds that they have been taught, and
some letter combinations that they have not yet been taught formally.
Please refer to the Rationale concerning the reading of
whole “familiar” words which contain some letter sounds that have not yet
been taught formally.

- Go over the pictures with the pupils. Emphasize the sound /sh/.
