●
Tell pupils: This is a menu.
- Write the word menu on the board.
- Point to each letter and ask pupils what each letter is.
- Circle the word men and say: m/e/n.
- Ask pupils to repeat m/e/n. Now read the whole word menu and have
pupils repeat the word.
- Ask pupils the meaning of the word.
●
Model the following dialogue, first with Max and then with a few pupils:
- You are the waiter. Ask Max and the pupils to order food from the menu. It
will be hard for pupils to remember the entire dialogue, so first have each
group be the waiter or customer and have them roleplay in groups a few
times before calling on individual pupils.
- Bring in props: a towel, tablecloth, place settings, etc.
- Waiter: What do you want to eat?
The customer chooses an item from the menu and says: I want to eat…
How much does it cost? (Help with this text.)
Waiter: It's 10 cents.
- The customer pretends to eat. When s/he finishes, s/he pays the waiter and
says: Thank you!
The waiter takes the money and asks: Did you like the food?
The customer responds: Yes, I did. The food was very good!
(Weaker pupils may say: Yes, I did.)
• Tell pupils: Open the Practice Pages to page 95.
- Read the story and complete the page according to instructions.
