MFEA-456 TG - Book - Page 197
- Ask pupils how many words begin with the letters B? D? F? H? C?
- Put the letter flashcards for Bb, Dd, Ff, Hh, Cc on your desk, face down.
Call individual pupils to each take one card, and hold it next to the picture
with the corresponding beginning letter. The class chants: The letter is
____ , the sound is / /.
- Ask: What are these pictures? Pupils answer: animals.
- Ask: Where do the different animals live? (the bear in the zoo or in the
forest, the bird in the sky, the duck in the water or on a farm, the horse on
a farm, etc.)
- Ask pupils: What color is the bear? What other colors can "real
bears" be?
- Ask: What color are "real birds?"
- Do this with all the animals so that pupils review what real animals look like.
Game
●
Who Am I? (game #38)
- Say: Baa, baa. Ask pupils: Who am I? (a sheep)
- Ask pupils to take turns making the sound that each of the animals on the
flashcards makes. The class must guess the animal.
IV. The story: Brown Bear, Brown Bear
Introduction
●
Discuss the cover.
- Ask pupils: What do you see on the cover?
- Ask pupils if they remember another story they read about a bear.
- Point to the bear on the cover and ask: What color is the bear? Can a real
bear also be brown?
- Ask pupils to look at the picture on the cover. Ask: Does the drawing
remind you of another book? If pupils cannot guess, show them a few
other pictures in the book.
- Point out that the picture resembles the story "From Head to Toe" which
they have already read, because the same artist, Eric Carle, drew the
pictures. Tell pupils that he draws pictures for many children's books and
also writes stories.
- Show pupils the book "From Head to Toe" and ask what is similar about the
pictures in the two books.
