Read the Newspaper (game #62)
- Give each pupil a copy of a newspaper article in English which you have
photocopied and enlarged by 25%. Tell pupils to look for a specific letter
and circle all those letters in the article.
- Say: Circle the letter F. Ask pupils: How many F’s did you find? Take
a survey.
- Repeat the activity with many letters.
II. Summing up the story: The Little Red Hen
Acting Out
●
Choose four pupils to act the part of the hen, the dog, the duck and the cat.
- Divide the rest of the class into 4 groups: hens, dogs, ducks and cats.
Have pupils play parts other than the ones they played in the previous
lesson.
- Call the actors to the front of the room and give them the props they need
for their characters.
- You serve as the narrator. Have the selected pupils act out the story with
motions while you narrate.
- The class joins in and says: Not I! when their animal comes up in the story.
- When you are finished, encourage the audience to clap and have the actors
and actresses take a bow (as in the previous unit).
- Call individual actors to come forward and take their bows. Say: Dog and
the actor comes forward, barks and takes a bow.
- Everyone in the dog group stands up at their seat, barks and takes a bow as
the other pupils clap.
- Do this with all the characters in the story.
- Hold up the bread in front of the class and ask: Who will help me eat the
bread?
- Pupils answer: I will! Give each pupil a slice of bread.
- Explain that you gave everyone bread because everyone helped to make
the play successful.
- Discuss actions and consequences and what lessons can be learned from
the story.
- Ask pupils: Why did the Little Red Hen keep asking her friends for
help? Why didn’t her friends help her? Do you think they are good
friends?
