III. The story: The Little Red Hen
Second Reading: Interactive Reading
●
●
Ask pupils: Who are the main characters in the story?
Elicit the sequence of the story from pupils: What happened first? What
happened in the middle of the story? What happened at the end of the story?
Acting Out
●
Divide the class into four groups: ducks, dogs, cats and Red Hens. Tell pupils
to get their animal puppets ready.
- As you read the story, pupils hold up their animal puppet when their
character's turn comes up and answer: Not I! or I will! in the appropriate
voice for their animal. You, the teacher, are the narrator and say most of
the lines.
- The Red Hens say: Then I will do it myself! and No, you won't! I made
it myself and I'll eat it myself.

her solution?
- Ask pupils to think of other things the Little Red Hen could have done.
- Ask pupils why the Little Red Hen acted the way she did.
- Ask pupils why the animals acted the way they did.
- Ask pupils if they think the Little Red Hen could have done something else
to get her animal friends to help her.
- Ask pupils how they would change the ending.
