The Letter W
- Show pupils the new letter W for wolf.
- Ask pupils to find the letter on the ABC strip. Point out that W is close to
the end of the alphabet.
- Ask pupils what other words they know that begin with the /w/ sound.
Elicit: wolf, white, woman, window, walkman, water, etc. Put up picture
cards and wordcards under the W lettercard.
- Say to pupils, emphasizing the /w/ sound: What is the girl's name?
Where is she going? What did she bring?
- Explain to pupils that the letter W is special because there is no /w/ sound
in Hebrew.
- Practice saying /w/. Chant: The baby on the bus cries wah, wah, wah.
- Ask if pupils know names that begin with W: Willie, Walter, Wendy.
- Have a pupil stand near the window. The class chants: (Pupil's name) is
at the window, window, window.

Writing
- Draw the house and write the letters Ww in the house.
- Show and explain that W is an upside down M.
- Now have pupils write the letter W with a finger, in the air and on their
desks.
