Say: I spy with my little eye something& (use an adjective that has been taught:
colors/big/small/fat/long/short/tall, etc.)
Teach the new vocabulary word "something" through the context of the game. Use L1 if needed
to explain the meaning.
Have pupils identify the correct word. For each incorrect guess, add another clue.
Play a few rounds to practice different words. The teacher may choose a volunteer to lead.
Class Discussion
•
Ask pupils the following questions. Encourage responses in English and emphasize the target
vocabulary in the pupils' answers. Reassure pupils that there is not one correct answer.
1. What is your favorite animal? (Elicit responses using the structure: My favorite animal is&)
2. Do you have a pet? or Do you want a pet? (Elicit: Yes, I do. / No, I don9t.)
3. How do you look after a pet/animal? (e.g.: give the animal food, water, take it to the vet, etc.)
Course Book pages 32-33
Course Book page 32, task 1
•
Say: Look at the picture. What do you see? (Elicit: animals, a horse, sheep, trees, etc.)
•
Have pupils write a list in their notebooks of as many words as they can (new and previously learned
words). Remind pupils to use the new words on the page to help them and the glossary in the back of
the Course Book.
•
Writing Tip: Tell pupils that items in a list do not need capital letters and periods as they are not full
sentences.
•
Then, review the words pupils wrote together as a class. Have pupils add to their lists, as necessary.
Course Book page 32, task 2
•
Have pupils play the guessing game by taking turns asking and answering questions with a partner.
Have one partner choose an animal from the picture in task 1. The pupils should give a clue and then
ask: What is it? The other partner will guess the animal. Partners should then switch roles.
•
Practice the dialogue with the pupils before allowing pupils to work with their partners. Show pupils
they can replace the bolded words in the dialogue to play: I see an animal. It is small. What is it? If
the partner does not guess correctly, give another clue: It lives in the forest. (Elicit: It is a rabbit.)
•
Remind pupils to use the new and review words to help them. Remind pupils that we say "it" when
we are talking about an animal.
Course Book page 33, task 3
•
Before listening, read Lily's speech bubble together with the pupils. Have pupils predict which animal
Lily's aunt looks after first each morning.
•
Have pupils listen to Lily's aunt's morning schedule and find out when she looks after each animal.
Have pupils complete the table in their notebooks with the correct animals from the word box.
