Choose a word from the reviewed words. Don't tell the pupil the word you chose. Begin drawing
the word on the board. Have the pupils guess which word you are drawing.
Have the pupil who guessed correctly come to the board to play the next round. Play several
rounds to practice the words.
The activity can be done as a whole class or as a team/small group competition.

Discuss and elicit from pupils what is in the north/south/east/west of the world/the country/the

Before reading, have pupils look at the map in task 12 and talk with a partner about what they think
they could see in the north, south, east, and west of USA.

Ask pupils if they know what country the map is of. Tell pupils it is the USA (United States of
America). Use L1 if needed.
Ask pupils if they have visited the USA. If so, elicit what pupils saw during their visit.

Before reading, ask pupils about the text type. Elicit that it is an online blog and point out the
features of the text type (browser window, web address, website title, etc.).

Have pupils look at the text and make predictions about the type of information in the text based
on the pictures, text type, and title. Determine that this is an online travel guide written by Lily.
Point out the compass and have pupils point on the map to: north, south, east, west.

Read the text together with the pupils.

After reading, ask the pupils what they can see/do in each part of the country (north, south, east,
west). Elicit what the pupils have learned from reading the text.

Ask pupils to give a personal response: Have they visited different parts of their country? What
did they see/do there? Discuss how their experiences compare to the information on the blog.
