Draw a word web with the word "adult" in the center.
In their notebooks, have pupils copy the word web and write at least
three vocabulary words around it that relate to the center word.

Pupils can choose any words that refer to adults. For example, aunt,
doctor, man, etc.
Repeat to create word webs for: child, old, young.
Have pupils work in partners or small groups. When pupils are finished, ask each group to share a
word web with the class.
Alternatively, say the word and then call on three pupils to give three associated words.

Before reading, have pupils look at My Family Tree. Have pupils describe the family members using
the pronouns. Have pupils point and say, e.g.: He is a grandfather. She is an aunt., etc.

Before reading, have pupils look at My Family Tree. Ask if pupils have seen a family tree before and
explain that it is a type of diagram that shows family members and how they are related (use L1 if
needed).

Have pupils find Lily in the family tree and point to her in their Course Books. Read her speech bubble
and elicit the answer to her question from the pupils: How many grandchildren are in my family?
(Elicit: There are six grandchildren in her family.)

Then, read her speech bubble again and have pupils follow along in the family tree by pointing to the
family members she mentions.

Practice reading the family tree by saying a family member and having pupils find and point to the
correct person in their books.

Have pupils read the description to find out who each person is. Have pupils use Lily's Family Tree to
help them.
