Before reading, have pupils scan the poem for words with vowel teams in the box. Have pupils find
and say at least one word for each vowel team.

Read the poem together with the pupils.
•
After reading, ask: Why do you think the boots are brown?
•
Use the text to practice reading for fluency. Have pupils read the poem again aloud. Have pupils echo
and imitate your reading to help them and assess them for fluency skills. Repeat the reading practice
as needed.

Have pupils look at the clock and ask: What time is it? (Elicit: It is nine o'clock.)

Ask the questions and have pupils respond: What time is it now? What time does school start?
What time does school end?
Remind pupils that we say the hour, then the minutes: nine fifteen, nine thirty, nine forty-five, etc.
▪
Remind pupils that we say "o'clock" only on the hour (nine o'clock 9:00 vs. nine thirty 9:30).
