27. One at a Time
• Show the review words or hide them for a challenge.
• Choose a word. Don9t tell the pupils the word you chose. Begin by writing the first letter of the
word on the board. Have pupils guess which word you are writing. After a few seconds, if pupils
haven9t guessed correctly, add the second letter. Continue until pupils guess the word, or you
have written the complete word on the board.
• Play a few rounds to practice different words. The teacher may choose a volunteer to lead.
28. Clue
• Have pupils work with a partner or a small group to scan the story in their Course Books. Give
pupils clues and have pupils write down where they found each picture or word (page number).
More than one possibility for some clues is possible.
29. Acrostic Poem
• Before doing the activity, ask pupils to say any words they associate with a word of your
choosing. Encourage responses in English and write any words or phrases on the board using
vocabulary they know (remind pupils of the recently reviewed words to help them). Pupils may
respond in L1 if needed; help them translate their responses and add them to the board.
• Write the chosen word in capital letters from top to bottom on the board.
• Work as a class to write an acrostic poem. Write one word or phrase beginning with each letter
of the chosen word. Use the brainstorming ideas to help.
• Alternatively, have pupils work in small groups/pairs to write their own acrostic poems in their
notebooks. Pupils may use the brainstorming done by the class, the glossary in the back of the
Course Book, or any other words they associate with the word. Accept any
• logical additions to the poems.
30. Tic Tac Toe
• Draw a 3x3 grid on the board (making 9 squares). Write one word in each square.
• Divide the class into two teams. Play Tic Tac Toe, but in order to place an X or O on the board,
the team (or a volunteer from the team) must say a sentence using the given word.
• Repeat until one team gets three in a row to win the game.
• Repeat with a new gameboard to practice different words.
