Record the words you say on the board.
To make the game more challenging, give a clue rather than saying the word. For example: You
can play with it. (Pupils must point to "toy").
Continue saying words until a pupil gets three in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) and
calls: BINGO! Check the winning words against the list on the board.

Have pupils work with a partner or small group to scan the text on pages 200-205 in their Course
Books. Give pupils the clues below and have pupils write down where they found each picture or
word (page number). More than one possibility for some clues is possible.
1. Find a picture of someone using a computer.
2. Find a picture that shows technology that we do not have today.
3. Find a picture of someone in space.
4. Find the word "grow."
5. Find how many times you see the word "possible."

Show the story The Time Machine. Use L1 if needed to discuss the title.

Before reading, have pupils make predictions about what the story might be about. Have pupils
predict how they think the character in the story will use the time machine.

surprised when she walks outside? (The flowers are as tall as she is.) Why are the flowers so
tall? (People do not leave plastic garbage on the ground.)
Page 202: Why are the shoes that Joy tries special? (They help her run fast.)
Page 203: Why is the food at the restaurant special? (There is a machine that makes any food
you want.)
Page 204: Where does Ted take Joy? (He takes her to space/the Moon.) Does it take a long time
to fly to space? (No, just twenty minutes.)
Page 205: Joy tells her friends what she saw in the future. What do Joy9s friends think about it?
(They can9t imagine the future.) Why does Joy smile at the end? (She thinks the future will be
great.)
After reading, ask pupils if they think the future will or will not look like it does in the story.
