▪
▪
▪
▪
Draw a 3x3 grid on the board (making 9 squares). Write one vocabulary word in each square.
Divide the class into two teams. Play Tic Tac Toe, but in order to place an X or O on the board, the
team (or a volunteer from the team) must say a sentence using the given word.
Repeat until one team gets three in a row to win the game.
Repeat with a new gameboard to have different pupils practice different vocabulary.

explain the meaning).
▪
Have pupils determine who is chatting in the messages (Elicit: Nate and Joy).
•
Read the text together with the pupils.
•
After reading, ask pupils what Joy and Nate will do this weekend. Ask pupils why this is special or
interesting. Elicit what the pupils have learned from reading the text.
▪
•
Elicit a personal response from the pupils: Would you go to a hologram concert? Why or why
not?
Use the text to practice reading for fluency. Have pupils read the messages again aloud (you may

your reading to help them and assess them for fluency skills. Repeat the reading practice as needed.
