Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): advice, arm, body, choose,
competition, cook, exercise, fast food, foot, football, head, healthy, heart, knee, leg, life, meal, move,
player, shoulder, snack, sports, strong, tennis, tired.
•
Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.

Ask pupils what some of these words have in common. Elicit: body parts, sports, exercise,
healthy foods, etc.

Begin by putting two words on the board that will become the categories, e.g., body parts vs.
sports words
Divide the class into two teams. Each team sends a pupil to the board to write one of the
vocabulary words under the category.
Teams receive points for each word placed under the correct category. You may choose to give
bonus points for correct spelling.
Once all (or most) of the words have been used, start two new categories (e.g., verbs vs. nouns,
food words vs. adjectives) and continue playing.

Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: application, care, science, sick, without.

Elicit from pupils some examples of applications they know or have used. Ask what they do or are
used for.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on page 188.

Tell pupils that the letters -ck at the end of a word (after a vowel sound) make the sound /k/, as in the
words: sick, clock, snack.

Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: sick

Review the vocabulary using the word cards before doing the activity.
