Elicit what (or if) pupils know about different dialects of English. Use L1 if needed.

Discuss with pupils that English is an official language in over 60 countries around the world.
There are many dialects of English: British English (UK), American English (USA), Australian
English, Indian English, Jamaican English, etc.
Also, discuss that English is an international language (lingua franca), which means it is used to
communicate in places where people do not all speak the same language. This is why English is an
important language to learn.

Before listening, read the dialogue together with the pupils.

Look at the vocabulary in the word box together and have pupils read the words. Have pupils
guess their meanings (in US English) based on the pictures.
Use this opportunity to teach the new UK English vocabulary words "biscuit, mobile, holiday, and
film= through the context of the task (use L1 if needed to explain the meaning).
Have pupils read the sentences and complete them with the new vocabulary.
Have pupils listen for the missing words and complete the sentences with the words in the word box.
