Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: answer, English, language, meet, question, speak.

Tell pupils that the letter W is silent in some words, as in: answer, two, write.

Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: answer
Ask pupils what other words they know that have silent letters in English.
Class Discussion

Ask pupils the following questions. Encourage responses in English and emphasize the target
vocabulary in the pupils' answers. Reassure pupils that there is not one correct answer.
1. What languages do you speak?
2. What languages do your parents/grandparents speak?
3. What other languages (other than English) do you want to learn? Why?
