Have pupils draw a 3x3 grid in their notebooks (creating 9 squares) and write any review word
they choose in the squares.
Play BINGO by saying a word and have pupils mark if they have that word on their BINGO grid.
Record the words you say on the board.
Continue saying words until a pupil gets three in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) and
calls: BINGO! Check the winning words against the list on the board.

Pre-Reading
•
Show the text Pine River Art Magazine. Discuss the text type. Determine that it is a magazine and
point out the features of the text type (name of the magazine, date of the issue, name of the articles).
▪
•
Ask pupils if they have seen or read other magazines. Ask what topics the magazines were about.
Discuss that magazines are made up of different articles. Tell pupils that they will be reading a
magazine about art, made up of several articles.
Before reading, read together with the pupils the table of contents of the magazine (page 130). Have
pupils then make predictions about what each article in the magazine will be about based on the
pictures and title.
Let's Read

you?) in the magazine, then take turns sharing with the rest of the class what they have learned.
•
Ask the pupils comprehension questions while reading:
▪
▪
Page 131: What famous artist is the text about? (Keith Haring) When does Keith draw in the
train station? (1985) Why does Keith draw two people and a heart? (To show us that we should
be friendly and nice to everyone.) Why do you think Keith says that "art is for everyone"? (Elicit
any logical response.)
Page 132-133: Who or what do you see in the photographs? (Elicit vocabulary from the unit.)
What do all the photographs have in common? (They are all photographs of art around town.)
Who do you think takes the photographs in the magazine? (Kids from the town.) What should
