Word Cloud (VA #17)
▪
▪
▪
▪
▪
Create and show a word cloud with the review words. Use a word cloud
generator tool like https://www.wordclouds.com/, or use the one
provided:
Divide the class into two teams and have the pupils line up in two rows.
Say a word in the word cloud and have the first pupil in each row (one
from each team) come to the board and point to the word as quickly as
possible. The faster team receives a point.
Repeat to practice all the words and so all pupils have a chance to play.
To make the game more challenging, give a clue rather than saying the word. For example: You
take photos with it. (Pupils must point to "camera").
Vocabulary
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: act, dance, movie, seat, show, ticket, tonight,
watch.
▪
▪
▪
▪
▪
Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit any logical response, including: theater and
movies, art you can watch
Ask different pupils: Do you like to act/dance/watch movies or shows? Do you like to go to the
cinema/theater?
For each word, ask pupils to say if the word is a verb (action word), or noun (person, place, or
thing).
Point out to pupils that the word "show" in English has two meanings. Give sentences to illustrate
the two meanings: I show my friend my new book. She watches a show at the theater.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 118/119.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – New Phonics Pattern
•
Tell pupils that the letters GH in English are sometimes silent. They often appear in combination with
vowels or teams, such as igh/ight, which makes the long /I/ sound, as in the word: tonight. Or,
augh/eigh/aigh/ough, as in the words: daughter, eight, neighbor.
▪
•
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: tonight
Ask pupils what other words they know that have silent letters in English.
Vocab Activity
•
Do the activity to review and practice the vocabulary (show the word cards): act, cinema, dance,
movie, seat, show, theater, ticket, tonight, watch.
•
Yes or No (VA #9)
▪
▪
▪
Say a true or a false statement about one of the words. For example: You can watch a movie at
the cinema. or You should stand in a seat. Have pupils say "Yes" or "No" to indicate if the
sentence is true or false.
For false statements, encourage pupils to correct the sentence.
Play a few rounds to practice different words. The teacher may choose a volunteer to lead.
