Review

Review the vocabulary using the word cards: address, city, hospital, house, library, neighbor, park,
police, restaurant, school, station, store, street, town.

Ask pupils what these words have in common. Elicit (in L1 if needed): things and places around
town
Ask pupils: Is there a (library) in your city/town?
Choose some of the words and elicit from pupils associated words: What can you find at the
(hospital)? (Elicit: doctors, beds, etc.)

Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: art, artist, center, cinema, everywhere, museum,
music, radio, theater.

Ask pupils what these words have in common. Determine that they are all words associated with
art, or places you can see art (use L1 if needed).
Ask: How do you say the new words in L1? Do any words sound the same in your language?
Ask: What kind of museums are there? (Elicit e.g., art, science, photography, etc.) What kind of
museums have you been to/do you like?
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 100/101.

Remind pupils that the letters 8th9 make two sounds in English, /th/ as in the words: theater, south
and /TH/ as in the words: grandfather, weather.

Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: theater
Elicit other words pupils know with these sounds.
Class Discussion

Ask pupils the following questions. Encourage responses in English and emphasize the target
vocabulary in the pupils' answers. Reassure pupils that there is not one correct answer.
1. What do you think of when you think of art? (Elicit any logical response, in L1 if needed, e.g.,
paintings, photographs, dance, music, design, movies/film, cake decorating, fashion design, etc.)
2. Do you like to look at art? Where can you do that?
3. Do you like to make art? What do you like to do?
