Have pupils draw a 3x3 grid in their notebooks (creating 9 squares) and write any review word
they choose in the squares.
Play BINGO by saying a word and have pupils mark if they have that word on their BINGO grid.
Record the words you say on the board.
Continue saying words until a pupil gets three in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) and
calls: BINGO! Check the winning words against the list on the board.

Have pupils work with a partner or small group to scan the story on pages 90-95 in their Course
Books. Give pupils the clues below and have pupils write down where they found each picture or
word (page number). More than one possibility for some clues is possible.
1. Find a picture of a boy playing football.
2. Find a picture of a woman riding a bicycle.
3. Find a picture of vegetable soup.
4. Find the word "field."
5. Find the word "friendly."
Pre-Reading

Show the story Ben's Special Day. Before reading, have pupils look at the story and make predictions
about what will happen based on the pictures and title.

Discuss the text type of the story. Determine that it is a journal entry and point out the features of
the text type (date of journal entry, the words "Dear Journal"). Have pupils make predictions about
who the writer is.
