Vocab Activity

Do the activity to review the vocabulary (show the word cards): climb, close, eat, drink, fly, jump,
look at, open your book, point to, read, run, sit down, stand up, swim, walk, write.

Review the vocabulary using the word cards and gestures before doing the activity.

Say a command using the imperative form (positive or negative) and have the pupils do or mime
the action. For example: Point to your nose. Open your book. Look at your feet. (Don9t) jump on
one foot.
Have all pupils stand up at the start of the game. During the game, have pupils who don9t follow
the command correctly sit down.

Remind pupils to use the Focus on Form section on the page to help them with the following tasks.

Have pupils match the imperative sentences to the correct picture.

Use the task to practice reading for fluency. Have pupils read the imperatives aloud. Have pupils
practice pronouncing the words accurately according to the punctuation and assess them for fluency
skills. Repeat the reading practice as needed.

Before reading, ask pupils about the text type. Elicit that it is a recipe and point out the features of
the text type (ingredients (shopping list) and instructions).

Have pupils look at the recipe and make a prediction about what the recipe is for by naming the
ingredients (banana, chocolate, candy, and fruit).
Read the text together with the pupils.

Teach the new vocabulary words "follow" and "instructions" through the context of the text (use
L1 if needed to explain the meaning).

After reading, ask the pupils what the recipe is for.
•
Have pupils read the instructions again and identify all the verbs.

Have pupils use the recipe instructions from task 8 to help them number the pictures in the correct
order.
