Word Cloud (VA #17)
▪
▪
▪
▪
▪
Create and show a word cloud with the review words. Use a word
cloud generator tool like https://www.wordclouds.com/, or use the
one provided:
Divide the class into two teams and have the pupils line up in two
rows.
Say a word in the word cloud and have the first pupil in each row
(one from each team) come to the board and point to the word as
quickly as possible. The faster team receives a point.
Repeat to practice all the words and so all pupils have a chance to play.
To make the game more challenging, give a clue rather than saying the word. For example: You
eat it in the morning. (Pupils must point to "breakfast").
Vocabulary
New
•
Teach the new vocabulary using the word cards: advice, after, before, don9t forget, exercise,
healthy, life, should, strong, tired.
▪
▪
Explain to pupils that "should" is a word we use in English to give advice.
Have pupils point to and read each new word in their Course Books on pages 60/61.
Ready to Read with Words I Know – Phonics Review
•
Remind pupils that the Magic E in English changes the vowel sound to say its name, but we don9t hear
the E. Remind pupils that the Long I sound with the Magic E makes the sound /I/, as in the words:
advice, exercise, life.
▪
•
Ask pupils which of these words is a new word they have just learned. Elicit: advice, exercise, life
Elicit other words pupils know with this sound.
